Old Town living for a young couple.

A young couple bought an apartment in a building from the 1930s, located in the Old Town district of Bratislava. The charming apartment with high ceilings was in its original condition and therefore underwent a complete reconstruction. The original 3.5-room apartment with an area of just over 100 m2 was transformed into a 3-room apartment that better suits the everyday needs of its owners.

The apartment is entered through a generous entrance hall, dominated by a custom-made curved wardrobe in a rich burgundy color. Patterned terrazzo tiles in beige and light blue were made to order. These three colors are also used as wall paint throughout the apartment. This special style of wall paint, together with classic parquet floors, underlines the historical character of the building. We replaced the original entrance door with a new one that exactly copied the original design, but is equipped with security features and was made in Slovakia.

The original kitchen area, which was located right off the hallway, was converted into a guest room / home office. We decided to enclose the room with a glass partition instead of a brick one, in order to allow as much natural light as possible into the entrance area.

We moved the bathroom to the original half-room location, thanks to which it has a window, which is particularly practical for ventilation and at the same time we got daylight into the room. We managed to squeeze a large walk-in shower and a free-standing bathtub into it. The bathroom sanitaryware has timeless oval shapes and is complemented by faucets in a simple minimalist design. The washer-dryer is discreetly hidden behind a custom-made wardrobe assembly. It also includes a specially designed and manufactured built-in clothes dryer.

The clients like to cook and host friends, so the main condition for the new layout was to connect the kitchen with the living area. By demolishing one partition, a generous living area was created, which fully meets these layout requirements. We combined the kitchen, living room and dining room into one room. This layout change significantly increased the quality of living. The owners' main requirement was the largest possible kitchen with an island and a minimum of upper cabinets. We incorporated a hob with a built-in extractor hood into the island, thanks to which we did not unnecessarily visually burden the space and instead installed a pendant light in the space.

The entrance to the master bedroom is cleverly hidden in the kitchen. Thanks to the area of 20 square meters, the room allowed us to create a walk-in wardrobe, which is visually integrated into the bedroom through a glass partition. The bed was made by the Slovak manufacturer Nesia, we added bedside tables with hidden storage space, which were made by a carpentry workshop according to our design.

When possible, we always try to use local products, which is why we decided on
dining chairs from the Ton brand, ceiling lamps are from the Lucis brand, whose lamps are produced in the workshops of leading Czech glassmakers. For the worktop and backsplash in the kitchen, we chose durable technical stone Technistone. The bathroom tiles are from the Rako brand and the beautiful round switches and sockets are from the Kliklap brand. Everything is made in the Czech Republic.
