We were approached with the project by the construction company House company, which was also the investor. They perceived the reconstruction of a dilapidated apartment building by architect Jozef Lacko from 1949 as a potential for the creation of quality old-town housing. The assignment of the model apartment was to reflect the nature of the reconstruction in the monument zone and attract a target audience that would also appreciate less traditional solutions for contemporary housing.
The originally 2-room apartment gained another room, a bright entrance area and access to a balcony by changing the layout.
The client did not need to be convinced of the value of genuine and natural materials, the preserved solid parquet floors were complemented by dark veneered furniture according to the shade of the stair railing and a granite worktop in the color of the staircase. The use of glass concrete is based on the existing material palette within the block and brightens the originally dark entrance hall.
Irregularly embossed tiles respond to the "imperfections" of the planes, angles and surfaces of the house, which has survived for half a century, and brass accessories await a patina that even old age will allow.
Within the model apartment, the main elements that define the functions and character of the spaces are implemented, the rooms await further furnishing by the future owner.
