The houseboat in Jarovce represents a renovation of an existing lightweight timber structure set on pontoons. Its objective was to adapt the property to current demands for charismatic weekend living on the water, while preserving the maximum of its original structure and reusing the existing materials. The intervention encompassed a complete renewal of both the exterior and the interior, opting for the sustainable adaptation of the original structure instead of building a new one.

The fundamental principle of the design was to add value to the existing structure. At the same time, the goal was to capitalize as much as possible on the context of the surrounding environment through an internal layout change, as the previous layout only partially utilized the location's potential and the connection to the water's surface. The main modifications aimed at reorienting the primary living spaces toward the waterfront side, expanding the outdoor living areas, and strengthening the visual connection between the interior and the surroundings. The result is a more spacious day zone that flows seamlessly onto the terraces and docks lining the property. Conversely, the original technical spaces and storage were moved to the entrance facade facing the shore, where a compact utility tract was created, complete with an entryway and a second bathroom. The freed-up space allowed for the relocation of the kitchen and dining area and the expansion of the living space. The entire day zone has thus become the center of the property, oriented toward the water. The upper floor houses the night zone, consisting of a master bedroom with a walk-in closet, two rooms for children or guests, and a bathroom.

Respecting the limits of the original structure was an important part of the design. The property retained its lightweight timber stud system set on pontoons, which determined the scope of possible interventions as well as the method of installing new window openings. The renovation therefore operated on the principle of maximizing existing resources. Many materials were preserved, relocated, or used in a new capacity. The same approach was applied to the interior, where original elements received a new surface finish or were transformed for a new use. Reducing the need for new materials thus became a natural part of the entire renewal process.

The exterior appearance of the property is defined by a new metal facade in a dark shade, which stands in intentional contrast to the bright material palette of the interior. All materials, both outdoors and indoors, were designed with an emphasis on increased moisture resistance and easy maintenance. The light rubber flooring creates a seamless foundation for the interior, helps brighten the space, and does not weigh down the structure with excessive mass. Solid wood elements, natural materials, and stained oak veneer are complemented by muted green accents on the ceramic tiles and window frames, referencing the character of the surrounding aquatic environment.
