Absurd Studio acknowledges the reality of function through concept, structures and works with materiality in the roughest way. The design of the solar studio, which is absolutely functional and at the same time unfolds in several layers, shows in simple details the conceptual transformation of function into architecture. Work with materials remains at the level of rough preparation of materials, e.g. steel annealing, without any surface treatments and coatings. The design presents the chemical-biological processes of the skin, given by the function, and at the same time satirically depicts a certain image of the company linked to the selected space in the hidden details of the interior.
Located in Slnečnice in the south of Petržalka, a solar studio was created. On an area of 70 meters in a rectangular floor plan, a reception is created that is visually connected to the corridor. The supporting element is a levitating concrete counter on the background of a large-format structured plate of glass. The wings of the space are complemented by minimalist furniture creating a small drawing in the space of imperfect concrete plaster depicting destroyed skin. The corridor leads to 4 different cubicles, a kitchenette and a toilet. The partition between the corridor and the cubicles is represented by milk plates with mobile parts and milk handles. The glass lets in colored light and very broken outlines of what is happening behind the plates in the cubicles. The cubicles themselves are various transformations of the arrangement of identical equipment in a black glossy space, with a glass broken ceiling, where the solar glowing machine becomes the dominant element. As the tonality of the machine changes, so does the atmosphere in the cubicle and, by extension, in the corridor. The toilet, as an absolutely utilitarian function, applies the color black as maximum simplicity and intimacy of the given space.
The result is a minimalistic space articulating function, philosophy without any pretense and effectiveness.
